  • Digital subscription service EA Access brings its catalog of more than 100 games to Steam this August
  • Subscribers to EA Access will get exclusive in-game content, access to a large number of EA Games, early access, and deals
  • This marks the return of Electronic Arts on Steam after both companies spent close to a decade apart from each other

Originally set to launch during the spring, subscription service EA Access is finally coming to PC via Steam.

Digital Trends reports that EA Access is a subscription service with more than 100 games in the impressive Electronic Arts catalog. Electronic Arts and Steam had previously announced their renewed collaboration, but the actual launch was delayed in light of the global pandemic.

“Don’t just get the game. Get more from your game with EA Access — it’s the ultimate game membership for anyone who loves EA games,” the EA Access page on Steam said on August 10. “Follow EA and you’ll be notified as soon as EA Access is available.”

Subscribers will get exclusive in-game content, access to a large number of EA Games, early access, and deals. Among the titles included are “Battlefield,” “Titanfall,” “Mass Effect,” and “Dragon Age.” Once the launch is official, games like “The Sims 4,” “Mirror’s Edge,” and “Burnout Paradise” will also be available.

Early access assures members that they will get up to 10 hours of access to new games even before they are officially released. For the players who play early access, they will also be able to resume games where they left off should they decide to purchase full versions of the games.

Aside from early access, members also get a 10% discount on all EA digital purchases including point packs, DLC, season passes, and game downloads. EA Access is also available on other platforms such as Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and via Origin.com for PC.

This marks the return of Electronic Arts on Steam after both companies spent close to a decade apart from each other when EA has a storefront on Steam in 2011. For the past few months, EA has been adding items to Steam.

Last fall, EA launched “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Oder” on Steam while adding more than 25 games to the marketplace.

Initially launched as Origin Access back in 2014 with Xbox One capability, EA Access introduced a PlayStation 4 version in 2019. The service costs $5 a month and $30 a year. A premium tier offering runs $15 a month or $100 a year. It has not yet been announced what the pricing will be on Steam.

Digital Trends notes that some games will still need Origin to operate, and EA has added a warning to certain listings on Steam that says “Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required.”
