Ed Sheeran had an unhealthy relationship with food due to his addictive personality.
The Grammy winner spoke on an online summit on anxiety and well-being. In his speech, Sheeran shared that he read Elton John's autobiography and it prompted some realizations about his own lifestyle especially about his “addictive personality.”
"There are so many things that he did that I do," he said.
"He would be like, 'I would just go on an ice cream binge and eat four desserts until I threw up', and I was like, 'I've done that before'.Or his martini binges, where he sees how many martinis he can drink. And I'm like, 'I've done that before too.'"
He confessed that it was very difficult to take things in moderation even though he understood that it was important to do so.
"With addiction, its very hard to moderate but moderation is the key," the "Thingking Out Loud" hitmaker said.
Sheeran then confessed that his addictive personality led to his unhealthy relationship with food and drinks because he couldn’t control himself. In his own words, Sheeran admitted that he couldn't do things "by half" or in "moderation."
"I'm covered in tattoos and I don't do things by half, so if I'm gonna drink... I see no point in having a glass of wine. I'd rather have two bottles," he added.
"Having a glass of wine is having something in moderation and probably isn't going to affect your day the next day. But two bottles of wine probably might make you quite sad."
Aside from drinking too much, Sheeran was eating too much as well.
"They used to call me two-dinner Teddy because I used to order two meals and eat that," he recalled.
"Then you start putting on loads of weight and hating the way you look. I think things like sugar, sweet stuff, junk food, cocaine, alcohol, it feels good the more you do, but it's the worst thing for you."
At present, Sheeran is in better shape and he thanked his wife, Cherry Seaborn, for his healthier lifstyle. According to him, Seaborn exercises a lot and eats healthy. She also doesn't drink too much and he is following her lead.
Sheeran confirmed his marriage to Seaborn in July 2019. The couple secretly tied the knot in December 2018 in Suffolk, England with their closest friends and family members, People reported.
