- This summon can solo most bosses in the game when fully upgraded
One of the most powerful companions any player can get in “Elden Ring” is an exact copy of themselves. This is what the Mimic Tear provides, and it’s about as powerful as one would expect.
In the name of accessibility without compromising the difficulty that made the “Souls” franchise so iconic, FromSoftware decided to implement a new spirit summon mechanic in “Elden Ring” that lets players call on friendly versions of certain enemies found in the world.
The Mimic Tears, common enemies found in great abundance in Nokstella, just so happen to be one of the few legendary spirit ashes available in the game.
Although this small blob doesn’t seem like much at first glance, its true power comes from the fact that it can copy the player’s exact loadouts and moveset. It even has tons more health than players themselves, which allows the Mimic Tear to survive even the hardest of hits.
Luckily, the ashes for the Mimic Tear is fairly easy to obtain, though players have to make a fair bit of progress into the main story before they can get it. The ashes can be found in a temple altar in Nokron, the Eternal City, but players need to enter this area via the huge crater in Limgrave.
The crater will only appear after players defeat Starscourge Radahn at Redmane Castle in Caelid. To fight this boss, players need to wait “until the stars align,” according to the NPC guarding the way to the boss. There are some varied reports as to when the stars will align, but resting at any Site of Grace in the Altus Plains seems to do the trick.
Once Radahn is dead and the crater is open, head down through the tunnels and past the Mimic Tear boss in Nokron. Then, head to the bridge, drop down the opening to the left and hug the left cliff edge to reach a Site of Grace. From there, proceed through the rooftops and across the ruined walkway, and then enter the church-like area with the giant enemy ball.
Instead of going down, look for a fog wall locked behind a Stone Imp statue. Open the wall with a Stonesword Key, kill the enemy inside and grab the Mimic Tear inside the chest.
