Election 2020 Polls: Trump Beats Biden, Sanders And Warren In Wisconsin
In a show of popularity President Donald Trump, despite being in the shadow of impeachment inquiry, maintained a decent lead in the swing state Wisconsin and topped all 2020 Democratic hopefuls, per a poll released Wednesday.
Accordingly, Trump has beaten former Vice President Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, South BendMayor Pete Buttigieg in Wisconsin, according to the new Marquette Law School poll.
In October, all these candidates barring Buttigieg were ahead of Trump.
In the new results, Trump has topped Biden, 47 percent to 44 percent and the President has a 3-point edge over Sanders 48 percent Vs 45 percent and pushed down Buttigieg by 8 percent.
The poll results also showed the House impeachment inquiry against Trump has led to the rallying of ranks in Trump’s favor.
Democrats launched the impeachment inquiry in September following a whistleblower’s report that said Trump pressured the Ukrainian president to investigate rival Biden and his son.
Trump won Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania in the 2016 election and they were decisive in his victory that won him the White House. But Democratic Party is aiming to take back these battleground states in 2020.
The new poll surveyed 801 registered voters in Wisconsin Nov. 13-17 and had a margin of error of 4.1 percentage points.
Impeachment backers declining
Meanwhile, the poll also showed that those backing impeachment and Trump’s ouster from office slimmed to 40 percent in the swing state Wisconsin, the New York Times reported.
“You’ve got Republicans coming home to Trump,” said Charles Franklin, director of the Marquette University Law School poll, while commenting about the surge in support in favor of the embattled president.
The poll showed only 40 percent of respondents supported impeaching and removing Trump. Significantly, the percentage of Trump baiters has come down from October’s 44 percent in the poll that attributed a 4.1-point margin of error.
In the latest poll, 53 percent said they do not support Trump’s impeachment and removal from office as against 51 percent in October.
Meanwhile, Democratic presidential candidates attacked Trump at the fifth debate in Atlanta on Wednesday night.
At the debate stage in Georgia, Elizabeth Warren argued that it was the “constitutional responsibility” of both Democrats and Republicans to remove Trump from office.
California senator Kamala Harris said a “criminal is living in the White House" and referred to the testimony of Ambassador Sondland and said it revealed, "everyone was in the loop of a criminal enterprise."
