‘Elementary’ Season 5, Episode 17 Spoilers: Sherlock, Watson Investigate A Murder Committed Over A Guitar
Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) are diving into the world of rock and roll in next week’s Season 5, episode 17 of “Elementary.”
The promo clip for the episode reveals that a man is murdered over a priceless guitar, which Captain Gregson (Aidan Quinn) describes as a “piece of rock history worth killing over.”
According to the synopsis of the episode, the homicide is only “heard” by a cutting edge gunshot detection system. So when the New York Police Department can’t find any tangible evidence that a crime was committed, they call in Sherlock and Watson to consult on the case.

The episode also sees the return of Shinwell (Nelsan Ellis), who wasn’t seen in the past two episodes of the CBS series. According to the synopsis, Sherlock and Watson become suspicious of Shinwell when he becomes the target of a drive-by shooting that reveals his involvement in an unsolved murder.
Shinwell last appeared in Season 5, episode 14, in which his daughter Chivonne (Madai Chakell) — whom he had not spoken to in five years — reached out to him for help. It turned out that she had caught the eye of a gang member, who wouldn’t leave her alone despite her repeated requests. Since the man’s gang might get revenge against her, Chivonne decided to contact Shinwell instead of going to the police.
Although Shinwell feared that helping his daughter out might bring her in the middle of his undercover mission to bring down his former gang SBK, he was able to convince the man to leave his daughter alone by offering him a deal for territory in the neighborhood.
Shinwell thought that helping Chivonne with her problem was his chance to finally rebuild his relationship with her. Unfortunately for the ex-con, Chivonne didn’t actually want a relationship with him despite his help.
“Elementary” Season 5, episode 17, titled “The Ballad of Lady Frances,” airs on Sunday, March 19 at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.
