‘Elementary’ Season 5 Spoilers: Episode 14 Synopsis Teases Sherlock And Joan’s New Murder Investigation, Shinwell’s Reunion With His Daughter
Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan (Lucy Liu) jump into the world of eSports in this week’s episode of “Elementary.”
According to the synopsis for Season 5, episode 14, titled “Rekt in Real Life,” the crime-solving duo investigates the murder of an ex-professional eSports video game player who is killed in front of his fans during a live video stream.
As Sherlock and Joan try to find the killer, they come across a group of gamers called Team Profine. Members of the said team are played by real-life professional eSports players Hendrick “DJ Nintendo” Pilar, Arturo “Sabin” Sanchez, Jordan “JKap” Kaplan, Tarik “Tarik” Celik, and Ryan “The Moon” Coker-Welch. Check out some behind-the-scenes photos of the group below:
In a recent interview with theScore eSports, writer and producer Jeffrey Paul King explained why the show decided to do an eSports-centric episode. “Our boss [series creator Rob Doherty] is fascinated by emerging niches and cultures,” King explained. “We’ve done a bunch of episodes that touch on brand new technologies or cultures. His biggest concern is always that we do our best to get it right and that it helps us tell a compelling story. We try to avoid doing any kind of ‘stunt’ storytelling; that is, using a niche market for nothing more than the attention it will garner. We want to use it to help us tell an awesome story.”
Also in the episode, Shinwell (Nelsan Ellis) asks Joan for advice when his teenage daughter asks to meet with him for the first time in years. As viewers will remember, Shinwell — who has lost touch with his daughter since his imprisonment — managed to locate her in Season 5, episode 2. Surprisingly, the ex-convict decided not to reconnect with her at the time, telling Joan that if he wants his daughter in his life, he has to earn it.
“Elementary” Season 5, episode 14 airs on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 10 p.m. EST on CBS. Watch the preview clip for the installment below:
