Elite Model Look Winner's Extremely Slight Frame Raises Questions
Julia Schneider, who was crowned the winner of the 2011 Elite Model Look on Tuesday, is extremely slender and this has led to serious questions being raised about the standards of beauty in the fashion industry.
Although she is a stunner, her acutely frail body structure has raised speculations that young girls might look upto her and consider her as an example of a physical ideal.
The implications may be dangerous as this might lead anorexic women with eating disorders to believe that their frames are normal.
According to the Daily Mail, while Julia's age, genetics and passion for ice hockey are most likely the reason for her waif-like build, the concern for many is that if she were to appear in a fashion campaign, people might try to emulate her.
The Elite Model Look is regarded as one of the most prestigious fashion events, where renowned models like Cindy Crawford, Stephanie Seymour, Gisele Bundchen, Julia Saner and Constance Jablonski have been discovered.
Established in 1983, the event offers aspiring and up-and-coming talents an international platform to showcase their talents. Moreover, what adds to the popularity of the event is the fact that it is open to individuals of all nationalities from all over the world.
For the current event, 64 charming contestants vied with each other for the title in a series of catwalk rounds. The hosts for the show include Shao Hua and Nikki Reed, who shot to fame co-writing Thirteen and currently stars in the Twilight films. Take a look at the images from the 2011 Elite Model Look below.
