“Elite” is coming back this week with a fresh start after the disturbing reveal on who killed Maria Pedraza’s Marina in the finale of the first season. Las Encinas is opening its doors once again, but things will never be the same for the characters fans have learned to love last year.

Apparently, when the renewal of the show for a third season was announced last week by Netflix director of originals in Spain Diego Avalos at a Madrid press conference, certain details about Season 2 were leaked, as per Variety. And based on these leaks, big changes are about to happen on the show.

The first and most obvious change is the introduction of new characters that will be part of the troubled bunch of adolescents. As revealed in a teaser trailer released early this year, Jorge López, Georgina Amorós and Claudia Salas have joined the cast as new characters.

At the press conference, López, who is playing Lu’s half-brother Valerio, said his character has “a super-rich interior world.” Valerio is also described to be an ecstasy-guzzling party animal.

Salas is playing Rebeca, who is said to be a stylish working-class girl and very outspoken. She will have a special connection with Itzán Escamilla’s Samuel. Rebecca will be the one to teach Samuel how to box. But there’s still no clue as to why Samuel is going to learn the sport.

Meanwhile, Amorós appears to be the next “It girl” in Las Encinas because she’s described to be someone who has a budding popularity on the internet. She is said to have more than 39,000 plus Instagram followers. Whether or not social media would have a big part in the new season remains to be seen.

Another change on the show is how storylines for each character would be developed. Series creators Carlos Montero and Darío Madrona talked about this to the press. They said some changes were “instinctively” made now that they have established audience character engagement.

Madrona admitted that they tried to put everything into the first season because they were driven by the fact that they were making a series for Netflix. “For Season 2, we thought that we had the opportunity to explore the characters and the new ones as well.”

Madrona also revealed that while the show would still bank on flash forward scenes this season, the new installment wouldn’t follow the “Big Little Lies” structure they used in the first season. He said that “Elite” Season 2 would be comparable to “Stranger Things 3.”

Explaining why he thinks the new season is similar to “Stranger Things 3,” Madrona said it will dive deeper into the interaction of the characters and depict more coming-of-age narratives that are greatly influenced by class and economics.

In addition, the new trailer for the show also showcases the changes in the dynamics between the characters from the first season. The most evident one is that of Mina El Hammani’s Nadia. Based on the trailer, Nadia is going to let her hair down, literally and metaphorically. She’s now become a stronger and more independent woman who does not need to be rescued by Miguel Bernardeau’s Guzman.
