“Elite” Season 2 is over. The 8-episode installment was so fun while it lasted. Seriously, they need to add more episodes. But things are looking great for the show since it has been renewed for another season. However, some of the cast might not be returning for Season 3.

Warning: This article contains spoilers. If you haven’t finished watching the second season, it would be best to stop reading this now.

The finale of Season 2 did well when it comes to setting the tone for the next installment. The major storyline involving Samuel’s (Itzan Escamilla) disappearance unfolded excellently when it was revealed that he was not dead and was simply hiding with the help of Guzmán (Miguel Bernardeau). The two also successfully made Carla (Ester Expósito) confess the identity of Marina’s (María Pedraza) killer. But in the process, Carla and Samuel developed feelings for each other. Sadly, their whirlwind romance had to end in the finale.

Since no one died this season, is it safe to say that all of the cast are coming back? Well, the answer could be a big NO! There were hints that some of the characters won’t be part of the next season, or that they would just be back to make recurring appearances.

First on the list is Nano (Jaime Lorente). His final moments this season were very emotional and quite haunting, especially when Matt Maltese’s “I Hear the Day Has Come” played while he was leaving town. It’s actually the same song that was played when he and Marina reunited before the latter died. Since the track was Marina’s exit tune, it’s possible that it could also be Nano’s.

The star-crossed lovers didn’t have a happy ending, but if Nano were to stay he wouldn’t really fit in the show’s main plot that focuses on the troubled students of Las Encinas. Unless he gets involved in another romantic relationship with any of the girls, which is unlikely to happen, or if he once again causes trouble for Samuel and their mother, there really isn’t a subplot that could make his character relevant should the series move forward from the Marina-centric arc.

Another character that might not be coming back is Valerio (Jorge López). After exposing his incestuous relationship with Lu (Danna Paola) and realizing that he didn’t really love his “half-sister” that way, their father could be sending him away once again. Outside of their family drama, the only meaningful relationship he has established was with Nadia (Mina El Hammani) and he threw that away when he recorded his tutor friend and Guzman doing the dirty in the locker room. The aftermath was so messed up when the video was uploaded to the internet by Lu out of spite.

Rebeca (Claudia Salas) might also be exiting the show after this season. For the most part, she’s very likable. But beyond her partying ways and her mom’s shady business, which caused big trouble for Samuel, she really didn’t make a mark. The pretentious Cayetana (Claudia Salas), on the other hand, has secured her main character status for Season 3 by establishing a romantic relationship with Polo and hiding evidence against her killer boyfriend. Should the writers bring back Rebeca, they should make her more involved in the lives of the leads, not just an accessory that kept on popping up from time to time. Could she be Samuel’s next shag partner?

Finally, there’s Christian (Miguel Herrán) who appeared for only a short bit this season. He’s still alive, but he was sent away by Carla’s father for obvious reasons. But now that the cat is out of the bag and Carla has come forward with a truthful confession, there’s no need for Christian to remain out of the picture. His return isn’t certain either because we all know he needs a lot of time to heal and the show follows the lives of the characters per academic year. Should he come back to Las Encinas, he would be less relevant than before because, for one, he and Carla would no longer be together. Nevertheless, he could still help testify against Polo. After all, Polo used his shirt to conceal the crime.

As for Ander (Arón Piper) and Omar (Omar Ayuso), there is no doubt that the two lovers are coming back in the third installment of the Spanish teen drama. Aside from realizing their strong love for each other this season, there are still unresolved issues that need to be addressed when the show comes back. Will Omar finally get his father’s approval? Can Ander turn things around between him and Guzmán after covering up for Polo? And obviously, Omar and Ander need to be there when the show comes back because the pair has a huge following on social media, just like Nadia and Guzmán.
