Eliza Dushku Slams CBS Over Forced Arbitration After Sexual Harassment On ‘Bull’ Set
Actress Eliza Dushku testified against forced arbitration in front of the House Judiciary Committee by detailing the sexual harassment she faced on the CBS series “Bull.”
In 2018, Dushku allegedly received a $9.5 million settlement from the network after she accused her co-star Michael Weatherly of sexually harassing her on the set.
On Tuesday, Dushku spoke out about the incident after signing a non-disclosure agreement but noted that she was only able to do so because she was testifying, unlike others who are bound by arbitration.
“I’ve worked as an actress since I was a child and signed countless contracts negotiated on my behalf,” the 40-year-old actress said.
“But never understood that there were mandatory arbitration clauses that would be used to keep what had happened to me a secret and would protect CBS and the sexual harassment perpetrator, who had blatantly retaliated against me for trying the stop the harassment in my workplace.”
During her time on the show, Dushku claimed Weatherly almost immediately began sexually harassing her.
“In 2017, I was aggressively pursued by CBS to become a co-lead in a show called ‘Bull.’ I was told that the role would be a six-year commitment to play a smart, strong leading lady — a competent, high-powered lawyer meant to counterbalance the existing male lead — and that the role had been written specifically with me in mind,” she explained.
“However, in my first week on my new job, I found myself the brunt of crude, sexualized, and lewd verbal assaults. I suffered near-constant sexual harassment from my co-star.”
Dushku revealed Weatherly would refer to her as “Legs” and “would smell me and leeringly look me up and down.”
One time in front of cast and crew members, Dusku claimed Weatherly said, “he would take me to his rape van and use lube and long phallic things on me and take me over his knee and spank me like a little girl.”
When Dushku spoke to Weatherly about his inappropriate comments, he contacted the of CBS Studios, which led to the actress being fired from the show the next day.
Dushku concluded her testimony by insisting that if binding arbitration doesn’t come to an end, there will never be true justice for victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault.
