“Widows” star Elizabeth Debicki is set to play the role of Princess Diana in the final two seasons of the blockbuster Netflix drama “The Crown.”

The 29-year-old actress will portray the character of the late Princess of Wales in the upcoming fifth and sixth seasons of the show. Her character will be introduced in the upcoming fourth season by Emma Corrin.

The makers confirmed the news on the show’s official Twitter handle and shared a statement from the actress along with the news of her casting. Debicki said that Diana’s “words and actions” live in the hearts of many people and it is an honor for her to join the “masterful” series.

The “Man From U.N.C.L.E.” star also praised the series for its storytelling and noted that she’s been loving the show since its inception.

“Princess Diana's spirit, her words, and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one,” Debicki said in a statement.

Last year, photos of Corrin playing the role of the late Princess of Wales went viral on social media after she was seen shooting for the show while holding a child playing Prince William. She also wore a fake baby bump to give a glimpse of Diana’s second pregnancy with her son, Prince Harry.

Debicki started her career in 2011 in a film called “A Few Best Men.” She received her first major breakthrough in 2013’s “The Great Gatsby.” The movie turned out to be a stepping stone for her in Hollywood and she was praised for her acting skills.

She also won the Best Supporting Actress award for the movie at the 2014 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA).

Debicki has since then been part of several big projects like “Macbeth” (2015), “Everest” (2015), “The Night Manager” (2016), and will be next seen in Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” alongside John David Washington and Robert Pattinson.

As far as the last two seasons of “The Crown” are concerned, Imelda Staunton has been confirmed to play the character of Queen Elizabeth. Meanwhile, the show will plunge into the 21st century in its sixth season.
