Elizabeth Debicki Recreates Princess Diana For 'The Crown' [Photos]
Elizabeth Debicki's first unofficial look surfaced on Twitter as she was spotted filming the upcoming season 5 of "The Crown." In the photos, the actress recreated a famous fundraising event from 1994 held in London.
A Twitter user shared two photos, comparing Princess Diana and the actress' recreated look.
"Diana photographed arriving at Vanity Fair’s 1994 fundraising dinner for the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens, London, June 1994," the user captioned the photos. "Elizabeth Debicki filming for the 5th season of The Crown today in the same location."
In the photo, the 31-year-old actress was spotted wearing a similar black outfit that the late Princess of Wales wore at Kensington Gardens. This outfit is popularly known as "revenge dress" as it was worn by Diana right after Charles, Prince of Wales admitted that he has been unfaithful in his marriage.
The off the shoulder silk dress was designed by Christina Stambolian who revealed that the dress was originally brought in 1991 but Diana didn't feel like wearing it until her husband admitted the extramarital affair.
"[The princess] chose not to play the scene like Odette, innocent in white," Stambolian said, Vogue reported. "She was clearly angry. She played it like Odile, in black. She wore bright red nail enamel, which we had never seen her do before. She was saying, 'Let’s be wicked tonight!'"
Another fan shared photos of the actress donning the "revenge dress" and stepping out of a car.
"The Crown" was first dropped on Netflix in 2016 and Diana's character was played by actress Emma Corrin till season 4. In August 2020, the official Twitter handle of "The Crown" revealed that Debicki will portray Princess Diana in the final two seasons.
“Princess Diana's spirit, her words, and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one,” Debicki said in a statement.
Season 5 of the "The Crown" is slated to release in November 2022.
Besides "The Crown," the actress will be next seen in a Marvel movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3." She will also feature in a movie titled, "Farnsworth House," which is under pre-production.
