Ellen DeGeneres' show won an award at E! People’s Choice Awards and the host praised and thanked her crew and staff. She also thanked the fans and viewers.
DeGeneres has had a tough year after several individuals claimed she was mean and multiple sources complained about the alleged "toxic workplace" on the set of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." Despite the controversy, her TV show won the award for best daytime talk show of 2020, and the host took it as an opportunity to recognize everyone who supported her and her show, especially those who were involved in the production.
"From deep, deep down in my heart, I thank you. I am not only accepting this award for myself but on behalf of my amazing crew and staff who make the show possible," DeGeneres was quoted by Entertainment Tonight, as saying during her acceptance speech.
"They show up every single day, give 100 percent of themselves 100 percent of the time. That's 250 people times 170 shows a year, times 18 years, and if you carry the two and divide it by 11 -- my point is, I love them all. I thank them for what they do every single day to help that show be the best."
DeGeneres also made sure to thank her fans and supporters who stood by her side and who continue to watch the show. She expressed her gratitude to them for their unwavering support.
"Know this award comes from the people. Thank you to the people, thanks for all of my fans for supporting me and sticking by me," the host added.
"I can't tell you how grateful I am and what this means to mean, it's more than I could possibly tell you -- especially now. Thank you so much."
The award came months after the toxic workplace allegations that rocked the show. DeGeneres issued a public apology when she returned for the show’s 18th season.
“I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected. I know that I'm in a position of privilege and power, and I realize that with that comes responsibility and I take responsibility for what happens at my show. This is The Ellen DeGeneres Show, I am Ellen DeGeneres," she said.
The new season’s premiere episode did well. In fact, the rating was on par with last year's debut with an overnight Nielsen household rating of 1.9 and ranked No. 1 in a lucrative ad demo.
