Elon Musk Now Lives In A Tiny House: Here’s How Small His Home Is
KEY POINTS
- SpaceX CEO Elon Musk sold his last property last month for $37.5 million
- Musk now lives in a tiny $50,000 foldable Boxabl home
- The entrepreneur currently has an estimated net worth of $172 billion
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and the Founder of SpaceX, previously sold the majority of his real estate portfolio in the past year. He recently announced that he is currently living inside a small $50,000 home that he rents from his space company in Boca Chica, Texas.Despite having a massive net worth estimated at around $172 billion and being considered as one of the richest people worldwide, Musk announced that he is living conservatively after selling off his last property earlier this month, the New York Post reported.
“My primary home is literally a ~$50K house in Boca Chica / Starbase that I rent from SpaceX. It’s kinda awesome though. Only house I own is the events house in the Bay Area. If I sold it, the house would see less use, unless bought by a big family, which might happen some day,” the 50-year-old billionaire CEO said in a tweet in June.
The entrepreneur’s current home is worth exactly $50,000 and was manufactured by Boxabl. The residence is a foldable, prefabricated home specifically made for ease of construction and affordability. Musk’s unit is a tiny 20x20 foot residence that was engineered to be durable, manufactured using concrete panels and steel and is light enough to be transported by a small vehicle such as a Tesla Model X, as per Teslarati.
Boxabl’s Casita unit is designed to be customizable with various finishes and configurations that customers may want to add. However, Musk’s unit appears to be a base unit that did not include additional accessories, the outlet said.
In a separate tweet, Musk revealed that he made some changes to his unit. “Now that I have made some improvement, I’m pretty sure it’s worth $69K haha,” he wrote.
Rumors about Musk’s new residence began in November after Boxabl posted a video on social media featuring the delivery of one of its units to a “top-secret customer” at the SpaceX facility in Boca Chica, the Independent has learned.
Musk publicly promised last year that he would sell all of his properties to focus on his objective of bringing humans to Mars. He was able to successfully sell his last property near San Francisco, a 47-acre estate, for $37.5 million last month, the outlet said.
