Elon Musk made an unexpected announcement when he took the stage in the latest episode of "Saturday Night Live" as he revealed that he has Asperger syndrome.

During his monologue, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO claimed that he was "making history" as the first person with the neurodevelopmental disorder to host the variety sketch series. "Or at least the first to admit it," Musk said. "So, I won’t make a lot of eye contact with the cast tonight. But don’t worry, I’m pretty good at running ‘human’ in emulation mode."

The billionaire also explained that he sometimes needs to add "I mean that" to his statements as there is usually not a lot of variation in tone in his speaking voice.

Twitter users immediately reacted to Musk's revelation, with some claiming it was "obvious" to them.

"No it’s obvious to those of us who either live or work with someone who is autistic and has aspergers. That’s why many of us aren’t surprised," one commented.

"I've been saying it for years. I'm pretty sure Zuckerberg has," a second user wrote.

"It has always been obvious to me," a third user added.

"I mean it was obvious. It became quite prevalent to me at the last battery day and on here," a fourth user wrote, adding, "Probably why the majority of the time he speaks is on Twitter. It's his best way to communicate his ideas or his mind without having to publicly speak."

Some praised him for revealing his diagnosis, with one person tweeting, "thank you for shedding a light on asperger syndrome."

A number of users, however, said that Musk's claim that he is the first person with Asperger syndrome to host "SNL" was not true.

"Dan Aykroyd has Asperger's. He was one of the original cast members and hosted in 2003," one person tweeted. "David Byrne also has Asperger's. He was a musical guest twice."

"Elon said he was the first SNL host with Asperger's... This is dan slander and I will not take it," another wrote.

Others were impressed with Musk's overall performance on "Saturday Night Live," with one person saying, "I did an absolute 180 on my impression of Elon Musk tonight. Fantastic!"

"Elon killed it! Way better than I expected honestly," another wrote.

Aside from his revelation, Musk also praised that "SNL" is truly live and that he could say anything, before joking, "I drive a Prius."

The billionaire was also joined on stage by his mother, Maye Musk, who said she was excited about her Mother’s Day gift but hoped it was not Dogecoin.
