Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball 2011
On June 23, 2011, Elton John hosted his annual White Tie and Tiara Ball at his home in Old Windsor located in the United Kingdom. The party was drenched in priceless diamonds and celebrities bathed in designer get ups including Dior, Lanvin, Pucci, Versace, and Calvin Klein. The ball itself was its own treasure chest.
Sir Elton John even wore the object of perfection - a 260 carat emerald pendant by Chopard. However, the Russian oligarch's wife stole the show while wearing a crystal- beaded Versace Atelier and Dior mink, a Harry Winston around her neck, David Morris earrings, and a large 40 carat Graf solitaire diamond on one hand and a 37-carat yellow diamond ring on the other. Talk about money, money!
Elton John first started holding this special event in 1999 to raise money for the Elton John Aids Foundation, which was started by the Sir Elton in 1993. The auction alone raised 5 million pounds in the first 40 minutes. The theme for this year's ball was 2001 Space Odyessy in which waiters wore silver masks as they surfed through the crowd and along with full orchestra playing famous waltzes.
Anne Hathaway showed up in Prada and Princess Beatrice wore a dress right off the catwalk by Elie Saab, Princess Eugenie sported an elegant red gown by Vivienne Westwood with even Sarah Ferguson attending the party in Escada.
Elizabeth Hurley arrived a little late to the party in Roberto Cavalli, with Chopard diamond-drop earrings, and her beau Shane Warne wore a Dunhill suit. Let's not forget a new comer to the catwalk - Chace Crawford attended the event in Dolce & Gabbana.
The 690 guests moved to a circle like dining area that was designed to look just like a space ship. Sir Elton John gave a wonderful performance opening with 'Rocket Man' and special guest George Michael jumped on stage of sing a duet with Sir Elton to 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me.' It was a wonderful evening for a great cause as well as really setting the bar for what true fashion royalty is like.
