KEY POINTS
- Cedric the Entertainer noted that everyone at Emmys was vaccinated
- A netizen noted that even after being vaccinated they have to wear masks at work
- Seth Rogen also called out the venue saying it wasn't outdoors like he expected
The 2021 Emmy Awards made headlines for various reasons including Scott Frank's long speech, Seth Rogen calling out the event for not following social distancing and the "Schitt's Creek" cast reunion. However, fans noticed that many celebrities were not wearing masks, which is not in line with what they preach on social media.
Cedric the Entertainer - who hosted the event - noted in his opening monologue that everyone has been vaccinated to attend the event.
He also took a dig at Nicki Minaj's recent comments and said, "I did not have a reaction like Nicki Minaj’s cousin’s friend. I got Pfizer because I’m bougie. Pfizer, that’s the Neiman Marcus of vaccines, Moderna, that’s Macy’s. Johnson & Johnson, that’s TJ Maxx."
However, viewers noticed that many celebrities were not maintaining the social distance norms, neither were they wearing masks. One of the viewers wrote, "No distancing, no masks. Clearly a slap in the face for all the font line workers that are still dealing with the pandemic. Check your privilege."
Another viewer shared a photo of celebs sitting together at the event and captioned, "No Masks at the #Emmys because rules are for the little people."
One netizen commented on the photo and noted, "Perhaps because everyone is vaccinated!"
Another person replied, "I live in LA. Me and All my coworkers are vaccinated but I still have to spend all day with a mask on. This is some elitist bulls**t to not wear masks while you’re sitting at a table just because you’re on camera."
Someone also noted how these celebs preach but do not practice, "No masks being worn INSIDE at The Emmys. Call me not shocked, love to preach but not practice what they preach."
Viewers were not the only ones to call out the Emmys but also one of the attendees, Rogen.
The 39-year-old actor presented the first award for the evening and noted that there are "way too many of us in this little room."
"What are we doing? They said this was outdoors. It's not," he added. "They lied to us. We're in a hermetically sealed tent right now. I would not have come to this," the "Knocked Up" actor said.
