Ricky Gervais may have been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Limited Series Or A Movie at the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday for HBO'a "Derek," but he was pretty sure he would not win. Instead, the comedian pretended to win an award while presenting the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

While onstage to present an award Sunday, Gervais began joking that it was inevitable that he he would not win in the category for which he was nominated. The "Office" creator then hypothesized that if he held a trophy on stage and posed with the award, the majority of viewers and fans spying the pictures on Twitter would later just assume that he had won. On cue, a woman came on stage to give Gervais an Emmy. The comedian then made a show of pretending to cry and give an acceptance speech.
