‘Empire’ Season 3 Spoilers: Who Dies; Did Anika Or Rhonda Fall Over The Balcony? [POLL]
“Empire” fans are just a few short hours away from knowing which “Empire” character met a grim death at the end of Season 2. The hip-hop drama’s last season concluded with either Anika or Rhonda falling over a balcony after getting into a brawl.
Episode 18 wrapped with Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) confronting Anika (Grace Gealey) again about pushing her down a long flight of steps and causing her to lose her baby. During the fight, Anika finally admitted to shoving Rhonda, explaining that she wanted her baby to be the only heir to the Lyon throne. Anika is pregnant with Hakeem’s (Bryshere Y. Gray) baby.
According to TVLine, fans will learn the fate of Anika and Rhonda within the first few minutes of the Season 3 premiere on Fox. “I’m devastated at the thought of saying goodbye to either one of them,” showrunner Ilene Chaiken told the outlet Monday. “And I’m not even sure how we’re going to get through it.”
No matter what happens, Anika or Rhonda’s death will be tough on the Lyon family. It was hard, especially for Andre (Trai Byers), when Rhonda lost her baby and it will most likely be as equally devastating if she were to die after a fight with Anika. Andre has managed to keep his bipolar disorder under control after his baby died, but who knows if he would be able to do the same while dealing with his wife’s death.
On the other hand, Lucious (Terrence Howard) may not be that upset over Anika dying — even though they just married — but Hakeem would surely be shattered because he was expecting his first child with her. Hakeem is already in a fragile state after Laura (Jamila Velazquez) left him at the altar.
Last month, star Taraji P. Henson dished on the Season 2 cliffhanger, confirming to “Extra” that someone doesn’t survive the fall. “They send us the script and then everybody’s calling each other like, ‘What? What? What?’” she said.
Take our poll below, and tell us if you think Anika or Rhonda died on “Empire.”
“Empire” Season 3 returns Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
