'Empire' Stars Grace Gealey And Trai Byers Confirm Engagement; Will Talk About Off-Screen Relationship On The 'FABLife' Wednesday
A marriage to Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) never panned out for Anika (Grace Gealey) on "Empire," but she may have found her one true love in his son Andre (Trai Byers). In July news broke that Gealey and Byers took their off-screen relationship to the next level by getting engaged. Now the two stars of the Fox hip-hop drama are ready to confirm their engagement.
E! Online reports Gealey is set to announce her engagement to co-star Byers on the Wednesday, Oct. 7 episode of ABC's daytime talk show "FABLife." airing Wednesday, Oct. 7. Gealey will sit down with hosts Tyra Banks, Chrissy Teigen, Joe Zee, Lauren Makk and Leah Ashley.
News of their engagement originally broke in July, but there has been no official announcement from either actor up to this point. According to Us Weekly, Byers asked Gealey to marry him on her 31st birthday on July 26. "He popped the question and she was totally surprised and elated. She can’t stop looking at the ring! They celebrated all night," a source told the site.
While the couple is happy together in real life, their characters on "Empire" are not together -- at least not right now. Andre is married to Rhonda (Kaitlyn Doubleday) and the two are expecting a child in the near future. Anika's love life is up in the air after her engagement with Lucious is more or less over after she slept one of his other sons, Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray). Although they aren't together as a couple on "Empire" they were still on the same side at the start of Season 2, trying to use a hostile takeover to take the company away from Lucious. After their failed efforts, Andre is now trying to rejoin his father and brother Jamal (Jussie Smollet) back at Empire.
"FABLife" airs weekdays on ABC at 2 p.m. EDT. Byers and Gealey can also be seen each week on "Empire" on Fox at 9 p.m. EDT
