A man murdered his lover for opening a bottle of Jameson whisky without the former's approval. The incident took place on New Year's Day in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Police have identified the suspect as a 35-year-old man hailing from Tswelopele region, near Midrand city. The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Palesa Moloi. Authorities said the suspect stabbed the victim several times for failing to treat him as the head of the family and disregarding his authority.

According to pulse.com.gh, the man had earlier warned the woman about the consequences of opening the bottle first. He is believed to have told her that it was he alone, who was scheduled to do the honors and share it with the other family members. However, upon finding that the lady had already taken a sip from the bottle, murdered her.

Police said they found the man at the scene of the crime, staring at the corpse, while in an inebriated state.

"When police interrogated him, he told them he killed the woman because she opened his bottle of whiskey and drank some while he was not around. The website quoted Captain Bernard Matimulane as saying. “He told the cops only he, as the head of the household, was entitled to open the liquor. He claimed it was his culture.”

The incident has shocked both the victim's father, Geelbooi Moloi and the acting Ivory Park station commander, Colonel Baba Mpotoane.

"We are saddened by women being killed by people who are supposed to love and protect them,” Mpotoane said.

The suspect is presently placed under police detention and is awaiting trail.
