While detractors have spit on Donald Trump and his administration in a figurative sense, one of his sons reportedly got that treatment in a literal sense.

The accusation comes from Trump’s son Eric Trump, who claims he was spat on by an employee at The Aviary, an upscale Chicago cocktail lounge.

Eric Trump, 35, revealed what happened during a phone interview with right-wing outlet Breitbart, saying he was spat on and Secret Service had to escort the employee out. He described it as “purely a disgusting act by somebody who clearly has emotional problems" and then proceeded to lump Democrats into the incident.

“For a party that preaches tolerance, this once again demonstrates they have very little civility,” Trump said during the interview. “When somebody is sick enough to resort to spitting on someone, it just emphasizes a sickness and desperation and the fact that we're winning.”

Alinea Group, who own The Aviary, announced in a statement Wednesday that the employee had been placed on leave following the incident. But they did emphasize in the statement that “no customer should ever be spit upon.”

“We hope this incident can, at least, serve to illuminate the current absurdity of the discourse in our politics,” the statement continued.

This is just the latest in what has been a long list of confrontations Donald Trump and high-ranking Republicans have faced during his Presidency.

One of the more notable incidents came in 2018 when former White House spokesperson, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, was refused service at Virginia restaurant, The Red Hen. This was at the request of gay employees at the restaurant who were not comfortable serving Sanders because of Trump’s efforts to bar transgender people from serving in the military.
