  • Andres Iniesta is one of the legends of soccer
  • Mbappe has just one year left on his current PSG deal
  • Haaland has been at Dortmund since January 2020

Former FC Barcelona skipper Andres Iniesta Monday insisted that Kylian Mbappe will be a "better fit" than Erling Haaland at Camp Nou.

Ever since Joan Laporta returned to the helm at Barcelona earlier this year, it is being speculated that he is trying to sign Haaland for the Catalans, considering his good relationship with the player’s agent Mino Raiola.

At just 20, Haaland has disrupted the world of soccer with his immense talent, leaving top European clubs wanting to sign him. However, it was previously reported that Haaland had agreed to personal terms with Barcelona’s La Liga rivals Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Mbappe, who recently missed a penalty that resulted in France’s elimination from the Euros 2020, is yet to sign an extension with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with just one year left on his current deal. Mbappe has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

On being asked which of the promising forwards would join Barcelona, Iniesta pointed out that Mbappe’s characteristics would make him an ideal candidate.

"Perhaps because of his characteristics Mbappe would fit better at Barca than Haaland. They are two very good players who are on everyone’s lips, we will see if they continue in their teams and do not change this summer," Iniesta was quoted by Goal, as saying, in an interview on Monday.

Haaland and Mbappe have been the talk of the soccer world for months now, having proved their talents time and again. They are two players who are believed to become the next Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of batting for the prestigious Ballon d’Or awards.

Haaland has been a goal-scoring machine across three clubs after making his first-tier soccer debut in 2017. He has netted 106 goals in 136 matches. He kickstarted his professional soccer career in Norway before being signed by Austrian club RB Salzburg in 2018. He scored 29 goals for Salzburg in a total of 27 competitive matches before moving to Dortmund. Haaland has been a part of the German club for less than two seasons but has already netted 57 goals in 59 matches, across competitions.

Meanwhile, Mbappe is well settled at PSG, becoming their talisman despite being just 22 years old. Following two seasons at Monaco, Mbappe was loaned off to PSG in 2017 before the Ligue giants signed the French forward permanently in the summer of 2018. Over the last five years, Mbappe has scored 159 goals in 231 competitive appearances.
