ESPN iOS Apps Get Apple’s Single Sign-On Tool, Chromecast Support
Sports network ESPN has just updated its iOS apps. Now, users of the apps will not have a hard time when logging in because both the ESPN main app and the WatchESPN app already have support for Apple’s single sign-on feature.
According to Engadget, the latest versions of the ESPN and WatchESPN apps have been updated with the single sign-on feature for fast and easy authentication. With the new feature, users will only need to log in to their TV provider once in the Settings of the apps. What this means is they won’t have to sign in every time they access paid video content.
The one time that users log in would already suffice, since the authentication would be populated across ESPN’s software for devices connected to iCloud. The iCloud Keychain allows SSO to work across all connected iCloud devices.
In addition to Apple’s single sign-on feature, the main ESPN app for iOS has also received support for Chromecasting. As per 9To5Mac, this simply means that users will now be able to control videos streamed via a Chromecast-connected TV using their iPhone or iPad. The WatchESPN app already has this feature, so it’s just about time for the main app to get support for this functionality.
Other additions to the iOS apps include Video Docking, Enhanced Gold Leaderboard and Australia Edition. Video Docking allows users to swipe down the video they are viewing to access the app’s other features simultaneously. The second feature follows every tournament and updates the redesigned leaderboards real time. Finally, the third feature enables users to switch to the Australia Edition so they can view AFL news coverage.
Both the ESPN app and the WatchESPN app are available for free on the App Store. While the ESPN main app is downloadable for the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, the WatchESPN app is only available for the iPhone and iPad.
