  • Marvel's highly anticipated movie "Eternals" is directed by Chloé Zhao
  • Salma Hayek's character will guide other characters in the flick
  • Hayek will also feature in the crime drama "House of Gucci"

Salma Hayek revealed new details about her character Ajak, which she portrayed in the highly anticipated Marvel movie "Eternals." Hayek noted that her character can't have kids and explained the reason for it.

The 55-year-old actress said director Chloé Zhao "decided to tackle the concept of leadership from the perspective of motherhood." "I'm not a mother. I'm an alien. I can't have kids," she told The Direct Thursday.

Hayek further explained that Ajak was originally a man in the comic book. However, they decided on a woman to play this character and take the lead.

"So instead of just changing the gender, I proposed to [Zhao] to really bring something that is very specific to womanhood," the actress recalled.

She further noted Ajak is like a mother figure to the members of "Eternals" as they have a mission and she guides them to reach it.

"I need to guide them into things... we have a mission in life, in the world," she explained. "A mother also needs to guide her kids. When they misbehave, she will reprimand them, but always from the perspective of motherhood."

Hayek also noted that her character is an alien, so she doesn't have the capacity to feel "empathy" but she always has a "perspective of motherhood" which makes it interesting.

However, it’s not clear yet if all the "Eternals" characters can't have kids or it's just Hayek. In the comic book, the "Eternals" have a superpower to be reborn, thanks to a special machine.

The star-studded movie features Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Salma Hayek as Ajak and Kit Harington as Black Knight.

"Eternals" will mark the third release in the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is slated to release on Nov. 5.

In addition to "Eternals," the actress will also be featured in the highly anticipated crime drama, "House of Gucci," which is slated to release on Nov. 24. The movie also stars Lady Gaga, Jared Leto, Adam Driver and Al Pacino.
