'Eternals' Writers Reveal Potential Spinoff Ideas Include Mahatma Gandhi, Kingo Struggling In Mumbai
While it’s been a week since "Eternals" premiered in the theaters, writers of the movie, cousins Ryan and Kaz Firpo, are already prepared with the potential spinoff ideas.
Kaz noted that he and Ryan pitched Marvel Studios regarding the prequel of "Eternals."
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter Tuesday, Kaz revealed that he suggested to the studio that the Disney Plus series should reflect on Kingo's character (played by Kumail Nanjiani in the movie) going back to the 1890s when he was struggling to become a Bollywood star.
In the movie, Nanjiani played a successful Bollywood movie star who is secretly a superhero. Kaz also shared that their idea involved Kingo's character dealing with Mahatma Gandhi, who is considered to be the father of the nation in India as he led the successful campaign for the country's independence from British rule.
"Go back and do a Kingo episode in 1890s Mumbai where he is juggling his life as a movie star, dealing with Gandhi’s peaceful dissolution of the British empire in India," Kaz told the outlet.
Besides Kingo's character, the writers also pitched the studio regarding a background story for Thena (played by Angelina Jolie) and Black Knight (played by Kit Harington).
"And there’s an episode with Thena where she’s in Greece. I would love to make that show. There are a lot of opportunities," Kaz explained to the outlet. "If the audiences allow us, there’s going to be a story to tell with Dane Whitman," he added.
Ryan also teased how the series can tell the story of "the Cosmos with the Eternals confronting Arishem and all the Celestials who are these incredible metaphors for creation." The writer added, "There’s a lot of stories in the Eternals universe."
Moreover, the writer praised Disney for providing "so many opportunities to tell these stories and so many different formats. It’s a really exciting time to just explore new frontiers in the narrative."
"Eternals" has a star-studded cast, which includes Richard Madden as Ikaris, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari and Salma Hayek as Ajak. The movie also stars actor Harish Patel who recently admitted that he never watched the movies of Jolie and Hayek.
While "Eternals" marks the third movie in the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel's upcoming highly anticipated movie, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is slated to release on Dec. 17.
