'Euphoria' Actress Zendaya Could Win Her First Emmy In 2020 And Break A Record
Nominations for the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on Tuesday. Following the reveal, "Euphoria" fans were likely thrilled to hear that Zendaya, who stars as Rue Bennett on the HBO drama, was nominated for outstanding lead actress in a drama series. While this marks the first Emmy nod for the former Disney star, it also comes with another impressive distinction.
According to Uproxx, if Zendaya takes home a win at the 2020 Emmys it would make her the youngest woman in the category to ever do so. Currently, "Killing Eve" star Jodie Comer, who is nominated again this year, is the youngest winner. However, if Zendaya wins later this year, that record would be broken due to the fact that she will be 24 at the time of the show's Sept. 20 airdate. As a result, that would make her two years younger than Comer when she won in the same category in 2019.

Following Zendaya's nomination, the official Twitter accounts for both HBO and "Euphoria" reacted to the news. While the network's tweet was more structured and simply congratulated the star, the "Euphoria" account's gibberish conveyed their excitement in a different way. Both can be seen below.

While the current coronavirus pandemic has continued to stall production on many television shows, several reports have surfaced indicating what's ahead, including a rumored cast addition and a familiar character from Season 1 developing more depth throughout the new episodes.
It remains to be seen if Zendaya will ultimately win her first Emmy, but in order to do so, she will have to best the other actresses in the category, including the aforementioned Comer, Jennifer Aniston for her part in Apple TV+'s "The Morning Show," Olivia Colman for "The Crown," Sandra Oh for "Killing Eve" and Laura Linney for "Ozark."
The 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards airs Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
