'Euphoria' Star Minka Kelly Rejected Nude Scene In Her First Episode
KEY POINTS

Minka Kelly revealed that she was asked to strip down during her first day on the set of HBO's "Euphoria."
During an interview with Vanity Fair, the 41-year-old actress said that she rejected a nude scene for "Euphoria" Season 2 because she "didn't feel comfortable."
"That was my first day as a guest on this new show, and I just didn't feel comfortable standing there naked," Kelly told the publication.
In Kelly's first "Euphoria" episode, which aired in January, her character, a wealthy mother named Samantha, hired Maddy (Alexa Demie) to babysit her son and has the teen unzip her dress after a night out with her husband.
Sam Levinson, the show's writer and director, wrote a more explicit scene than the sensual one that made the final cut, but Kelly noted that he was open to her tweaking the character.
"[Levinson] thought it would be more interesting if my dress fell to the ground," Kelly recalled. "I said, 'I'd love to do this scene, but I think we can keep my dress on.' He was like, 'OK!' He didn’t even hesitate. And he shot a beautiful scene and got exactly what he wanted."
Kelly appreciated that Levinson was open to her input, even if it meant getting an entirely rewritten pool scene the morning of the shoot. The actress said she understands that such changes can be "frustrating" and "can throw some people off."
"I actually trust and feel safe with a director who's not afraid to change his mind," she shared. "At the end of the day, the goal is what ends up on-screen. We're all here to facilitate his vision."
"Euphoria" star Sydney Sweeney also previously revealed in an interview with The Independent that she asked Levinson to cut some of her nude scenes, and he accepted her request.
"There are moments where [my character] Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, 'I don't really think that's necessary here,'" she said. "He was like, 'OK, we don’t need it.'"
Sweeney, 24, told the outlet that Levinson was very receptive to her requests.
"I've never felt like Sam has pushed it on me or was trying to get a nude scene into an HBO show," she explained. "When I didn't want to do it, he didn't make me."
Sweeney credited "Euphoria's" intimacy coordinator, Amanda Blumenthal, for helping to create a safe working environment for the cast.
"Euphoria" Season 2 streams on HBO Max and is set to air its finale episode Sunday on both HBO and the streaming service.
