Euphoric Apple fans brave rain at New York City's largest store opening
NEW YORK - Hundreds of Mac fans came out to experience the grand opening of Apple's largest store in New York City, despite the rainy weather.
Situated in the Upper West Side, the glass and marble building is 14,000 square feet and is the largest Apple store in the world.
Apple was giving away free T-shirts to the first 2,500 people there. As the store opened at 10 a.m. - Apple employees who were all dressed in red T-shirts -began cheering and clapping, creating a sense of euphoria as customers ran in.
I love Apple products, I have like 5 different stuff of theirs so I wanted to come out and check out the new store… and score myself a free shirt of course, laughed Ron Mitchells, 25, from Brooklyn, NY.
Other people attending the opening had just happened to be passing by.
I was actually on my way to Food Emporium when I saw this big crowd and I came to check it out. I'm glad I did, the store is just beautiful and so well designed, “said Mildred Jones, an architect from New York.
The new store joins the City's other Apple stores in SoHo, the Meatpacking District and on Fifth Ave. and it will be open basically the whole week long - 9 a.m to 9 p.m seven days a week.
Apple said the store, which is located at Broadway and West 67th Street (Click to view map), is able to serve 100 customers at any given time.
Customers also don't need to wait in line to make a purchase as all employees can ring it up via an iPod Touch.
