KEY POINTS
- Eva Mendes was likened by a fan to a struggling single mom
- Mendes defended Gosling's parenting
- Mendes and Gosling both want to keep their family life private
Eva Mendes responded to a fan who likened her to a struggling single mom by opening about her partner, Ryan Gosling’s parenting.
On Thursday, the “Hitch” star shared a snap of herself on Instagram, and in the caption, she wrote that she was a “tired mama.” Mendes stayed up late to prepare for her baby’s fourth birthday because she wanted to make it extra special as they won’t be having any guests due to the coronavirus lockdown.
One fan commented on her post and slammed her partner because it appeared to her that Gosling was not doing his part to help the actress. The follower alleged that the “La La Land” actor just leaves stuff regarding their kids to Mendes and even compared her to a “struggling single mom,” Us Weekly noted.
“I really love you, really I do, but yesterday under your last [post], I saw that someone had thought what sometimes I thought,” one fan commented. “I mean sometimes you seem [like] a struggl[ing] single mother and we know that you have a man, but the way you write, I mean, [it] seems that your [partner] let the hard job to you and he doesn’t help you.”
Mendes thanked the follower for the “honest comment,” and she also gave her “honest answer.” The “Ghost Rider” star made it clear that just because she said she’s tired, it didn’t mean that her partner didn’t help her.
"I love women. I’m a girls’ girl. I love connecting to women. That’s mainly why I have this page,” Mendes wrote. “So when I say I’m a ‘tired mama’ and want to connect to other ‘tired mamas’ it’s not about excluding the fathers or other caregivers that do so much. It’s just me connecting to other women but in no way does it de-value what papas do. And why I don’t talk about Ryan and all the wonderful things he does as a father is because I keep that part private.”
In April, Mendes also explained that she doesn’t share too much about her immediate family, including Gosling and their daughters, because she doesn’t feel comfortable doing so. Also, she’s open to sharing bits of them but would never post daily pictures of their family life.
However, when her kids are old enough, with their consent, she might post their photos. Mendes and Gosling also agreed that they want to keep their family affairs between them.
“As far as Ryan and I, it just works for us this way to stay private,” Mendes said.
