Following the release of iOS 6.1.2 to the public Tuesday that offers fix for the Exchange Calendar bug “that could result in increased network activity and reduced battery life,” there was a concern within the jailbreak community that the firmware update could also fix the exploits that helped hackers to create the evasi0n untethered jailbreak.

However, evad3rs team-member Planetbeing took to his Twitter page a few moments after the release of iOS 6.1.2 and confirmed that the exploits used in evasi0n were still unpatched in the new firmware update.

The hacker came up with yet another tweet after sometime that must have brought smiles to many faces: “We will release evasi0n 1.4 later today that marks iOS 6.1.2 as supported,” Planetbeing tweeted.

On late Tuesday, the evasi0n untethered jailbreak tool indeed received an update that took the version to 1.4. If your device has already been updated to iOS 6.1.2, you can download evasi0n 1.4 to jailbreak the device.

In case you have a jailbroken device that has not been updated to iOS 6.1.2, you can avoid getting evasi0n 1.4 as other than the new firmware support, there are no changes in it.

If you want to update your device to iOS 6.1.2 while maintaining your untethered jailbreak, you are recommended to backup your device and restore it to stock 6.1.2 via iTunes (not OTA), before trying out evasi0n 1.4 to jailbreak the device.

iDownloadBlog has provided a step-by-step process to jailbreak iOS 6.1.2 untethered using evasi0n 1.4. But before trying out the steps, there are some aspects to be aware of:

- The users who are willing to jailbreak their devices on iOS 6.1.2 should ensure that the Passcode lock on their devices is disabled. To do this, go to Settings > General > Passcode Lock > Off

- The device should be updated to iOS 6.1.2 via an iTunes update, not OTA update
