"Spider-Man: Freshman Year" producer Brad Winderbaum explained the alternate timeline of the highly anticipated animated series, revealing that Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man won't be recruited by Tony Stark as seen in the live-action movie, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" released in 2017.

"[The animated series] follows the pattern that you see in [Captain America:] Civil War," he told Comicbook on Thursday. "Down to Peter getting the broken Blu-ray player from the trash and he walks into his department for the famous moment where Tony stark is waiting for him to offer him the stark internship and take him to Berlin."

However, due to "Avengers: Endgame" released in 2019, Tony stark a.k.a. Iron Man dies and this will impact the timeline of "Spider-Man: Freshman Year."

"But because of things that happen in the multiverse because of new, random occurrences, it's not Tony Stark who's waiting for him there," he revealed. "It's Norman Osborn and that sends his life in an unexpected trajectory that collides him with many unexpected characters in the Marvel universe."

Norman Osborn is the character appearing in Marvel movies that later turns into the iconic villain Green Goblin. It is popularly portrayed by actor Willem Dafoe.

Considering Winderbaum's comments on "Spider-Man: Freshman Year," it seems that the animated action series is going to follow the footsteps of another Marvel series, "What If...?" which revolves around Marvel superheroes in an alternative universe.

"Spider-Man: Freshman Year" revolves around the life of Peter Parker, who is on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story will be different than what fans have seen in the Marvel comics or the live-action movies so far.

Aside from the title character, the animated movie will also feature The Wizard's character, voiced by comedian Paul F. Tompkins, and Daredevil, voiced by actor Charlie Cox. Marvel Studios is yet to disclose who will voice the title character.

"Spider-Man: Freshman Year" is slated to release in 2024. Ahead of "Spider-Man: Freshman Year," Marvel Studios is all set to release animated movies like "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur," "Baymax!," "Marvel Zombies" and "I Am Groot."
