Everything You Need To Know Ahead Of Longines Breeders Cup Weekend 2021
The Longines Breeders’ Cup Championships, described as the Super Bowl of horseracing, are 15 races run over the next two days with purses combined at $31 million. It is one of the biggest racing weekends in the U.S., which includes the Triple Crown Races: Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.
The fifteen races include the Breeders’ Cup Classic (3-year-olds and over), Breeders’ Cup Turf (3-year-olds and over), Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (3-year-olds and over, fillies and mares only), Breeders’ Cup miles (3-year-olds and over), Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (2-year-old colts and geldings), Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (2-year-old fillies and mares) and Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (3-year-olds and over, fillies and mares).
Additional races include the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (3-year-olds and over, fillies and mares), Breeders’ Cup Sprint (3-year-olds and over), Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (3-year-olds and over), Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (2-year-old colts and geldings), Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (2-year-old fillies), Breeders’ Cup Turf Spring (3-year-olds and over), Breeders’ Cup Marathon (3-year-olds and over), and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint (2-year-olds).
The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and The Breeders’ Cup Classic, the race with the largest purse, are the two big races to watch. The former determines who the Kentucky Derby favorite will be, and the latter can determine who wins Horse of the Year at the Eclipse Awards.
The Juvenile will run at 7:50 pm EST Friday while the Classic will run on Saturday at 8:40 pm EST. All races can be watched on NBC Sports Network, TVG Network, and BreedersCup.com.
