  • Tesla vehicles could soon charge their cars on EVgo stations
  • EVgo begins using Tesla connectors in all their station in San Francisco
  • EVgo plans to extend the program across the country in 2020

Tesla electric vehicle owners might be delighted to know that a Tesla Supercharger station is not the only option there is when charging their vehicles in the San Francisco area. On Thursday, Evgo announced through its official Twitter account that it would start accepting Tesla vehicles as it starts adding Tesla connectors on all of its public charging stations in the said city. The company also revealed that it plans to expand the program across the country next year.

This is great news considering that Tesla Supercharger stations are the primary public fast-charging alternative for drivers. There is no doubt that Tesla Supercharger stations are robust, but providing consumers with more options for their convenience is not a bad thing. Additionally, Level 2 charging is not the fastest way to juice up Tesla vehicles considering its long driving range.

The latest news about Evgo’s program complements Tesla’s recent release of adapters to allow drivers to charge at any DC fast-charging station meeting CHAdeMO standard. EVgo is a nationwide charging station, and when asked why the program is only available in San Francisco and not everywhere, it says that it intends to expand across the country next year. San Francisco is probably the company’s prototype.

Considered as one of the most reliable fast-charging networks in the US, it is not surprising that Tesla decided to get into an agreement with the company. It is not only a smart move but also ensures that Tesla drivers can charge their vehicles when they visit EVgo sites and would not be disappointed by an offline network or a malfunctioning charger. In a statement via The Verge, EVgo states:

EVgo values the collaboration of Tesla in developing this program, and we look forward to exploring new ways to meet the charging needs of Tesla drivers.

But, Tesla owners may need to prepare for a slightly higher price, according to CNET. To be able to use Evgo stations, the company requires membership. Additionally, Tesla is not in charge of setting the prices, unlike in its Tesla Supercharger stations.
