A former professional football player in Australia was caught on camera assaulting several women at a parking lot more than two weeks ago.
Brennan Stack, 33, was out with his partner on March 20 when the latter got involved in a "heated verbal altercation" with a woman, a court was told, as per The West Australian.
The encounter, which happened in a parking lot on Perth's Aberdeen Street outside of The Library nightclub, was the result of two car doors colliding. However, it allegedly escalated to hair pulling and punches.
Stack, a former Australian Football League player for the Western Bulldogs between 2007 and 2011, intervened in the fight thinking his partner was being attacked by multiple "men" due to his poor eyesight, caused by an injury he suffered during his football days, his defense claimed.
"He has gone in to assist her — he was fearful for the safety of the mother of his children. It all happened very quickly," Abigail Rogers, Stack's lawyer, told the court.
Stack and another 25-year-old man named Shai Martin allegedly punched and kicked two 24-year-old women, Tiara Cox and Kia Krakouer, Fox Sports Australia reported.
Cox is the niece of Greens senator Dorinda Cox, while Krakouer also has family ties to the politician.
Martin appeared to have dragged one of the women by her hair across the parking lot, where he and Stack kicked her head, noted the outlet.
Meanwhile, another victim allegedly attempted to escape by crawling, but she was spotted by one of the men.
Surveillance footage of the incident showed "a high level of violence that only could be described as sickening," police prosecutor David O'Reilly said.
The officer who reviewed the footage described it as one of the most "ferocious" and "vicious" attacks he had seen in his 21 years in the service, police said.
The attack reportedly ended when police arrived. Both Stack and Martin were arrested on the scene and charged with intentionally causing bodily harm.
Cox and Krekouer suffered serious injuries as a result of the incident. A third woman, 20, was also allegedly assaulted during the encounter.
Stack and Martin applied for bail last week, but Magistrate Andrew Maughan denied the request, saying the allegations were "too serious" for their release to be appropriate.
Police confirmed late Tuesday that more charges had been laid against both men.
Martin has also been charged with intent to harm after doing an act causing bodily harm toward the third victim.
Neither he nor Stack have pleaded to any charge.
Both men will return to court later this month.
