Former LA Galaxy midfielder Giovani Dos Santos said he will "come back stronger" after suffering a horrific injury during a Liga MX match on Saturday in Mexico City.

Dos Santos, who now plays for Club America in Mexican football league, suffered a gruesome injury during their match against CD Guadalajara, also known as Chivas. The incident occurred at the 37th minute when Santos was going after the ball in Chivas' half of the field.

That's when Chivas centre-back Antonio Briseno attempted the studs-up tackle. He kicked Santos on the knee and the studs left a part of Santos' right leg torn open. Fighting immense pain, the 30-year-old Santos, was immediately given the medical attention as the blood flew non-stop.

While the brutal tackle handed Briseno a red card, Santos was stretched off and was straight away admitted to a hospital. "Giovani dos Santos underwent a medical evaluation where it was determined he suffered an injury to his right quadriceps. A bone lesion has been ruled out," Club America tweeted.

The ex-Spurs and Barcelona player, who started his professional football career at Barca's renowned La Masia academy, later on, tweeted a picture of him giving a thumbs up from hospital as he revealed that "everything went very well."

"Thank you all for your messages and prayers! Everything went very well Thank God! I will come back soon and stronger," Santos, who could be out for about six weeks, tweeted.

While Club America would have feared that Santos could be ruled out due to a fractured knee, things don't look that bad at the moment. Although they lost their key attacker in the first half, Club America clinched a 4-1 victory over Chivas.

This was not Santos' first injury while being with the club. During his three-year stint at LA Galaxy, Santos suffered multiple unlucky injuries but still had managed to make 77 appearances for them at the Major League Soccer.

From 12 matches in the ongoing 2019-20 season of Liga MX, Club America are placed third on the points table with five victories, six draws and one loss, while Chivas are 17th.
