A 30-year-old former youth softball coach in Alabama was arrested this week for allegedly sexually abusing a minor.
Meagan Billingsley Deese was taken into custody by the Hoover Police Wednesday and charged with first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse and enticing a child to enter a vehicle, house, etc. for immoral purposes, People reported.
As of Friday, it was unclear if Deese had entered any plea and if she had legal representation.
Deese has since been released after posting $90,000 for her bond but could not be reached for comment, the outlet noted.
She was arrested after a woman, whose name was not disclosed, came forward on Feb. 14 and alleged that she was abused by Deese, WVTM reported, citing a statement from Hoover Police.
The victim alleged that she was subjected to unwanted sexual contact when Deese was a coach on her softball team, according to police. The woman said she was a juvenile when the alleged abuse began.
The alleged abuse occurred over a span of two to three years but stopped in 2016, police said.
Deese played outfield for the Chargers from 2010 through 2013 after graduating from Shelby County High School in Columbiana, according to the University of Alabama-Huntsville Athletics website.
Detectives suspect that there could be more alleged victims who have yet to come forward. Police have not yet released any additional information about the case thus far.
Authorities are now calling on anyone who may have information related to the case or to Deese to reach out and contact Sgt. Scott Prentiss at 205-739-6125.
In related news, a 26-year-old youth church leader in Alabama was arrested Wednesday for allegedly sexually abusing a 15-year-old high school student.
Allison Brianna Cookston Stone, of Albertville, was charged with second-degree sodomy and second-degree sexual abuse, the Associated Press reported, citing Marshall County Sheriff Phil Sims.
Stone, a youth leader at the Church of God of Union Assembly in Albertville, was released after posting $60,000 bond. It was not mentioned if she had legal representation.
The alleged victim in the case was identified as a teenage boy from Boaz High School.
The parents of the boy were allegedly “unaware of the sexual nature” of the relationship between him and Stone, the sheriff said. The alleged abuse had been going on “for some time,” he added.
