Examining James Woods' Dating Record After Amber Tamblyn's Letter
It's no secret James Woods likes to date younger women, but some were surprised when he was accused of hitting on a 16-year-old Amber Tamblyn two decades ago. Woods, for his part, accused Tamblyn of lying. She responded in an open letter on Teen Vogue's website Wednesday.
"You think, it's not possible, there's no way I would've been so stupid as to hit on a 16-year-old known actress," Tamblyn wrote. "I wasn't known then, James. I was just a girl. I'm going to wager that there have been many girls who were just girls or women who were just women who you've done this to because you can get away with it."
Woods is currently dating Kristen Bauguess, who is 46 years younger than him. He began his relationship with Bauguess when she was 20 years old, multiple reports claim. The couple made their debut at the New York premiere of his movie "White House Down" in 2013.
Woods hasn't been shy about his relationship with Bauguess. He has shared numerous pictures of, or with, her on social media accounts. The conservative actor even shared photos from the couple's trip to Paradise, Nevada, in 2013.
Bauguess isn't the only younger woman to date the actor. In 2000, actress Alexius Thorpe, who was 19 at the time, dated Woods when he was 53. He defended their relationship, saying, "If you ever bought a dog what did you buy? You bought a f—ing puppy ... You don't buy a 13-year-old German shepherd. You buy a nice young puppy — what are you crazy?"
Woods began dating Ashley Madison in 2006, which was right before Bauguess. Madison, who was the daughter of Woods' best friends, reportedly began her relationship with the actor when she was she was either 19 or 20 years. The pair eventually called it quits in 2013 after seven years together. Madison was 26 at the time.
Armie Hammer commented Woods relationship with Madison on Twitter Monday, saying, "Didn't you date a 19 year old when you were 60?" The tweet followed Woods' disapproval of the relationship age gap depicted in Hammer's latest flick, "Call Me By Your Name." "Call Me By Your Name" is a coming of age story that showcases a relationship between a 17-year-old boy and 24-year-old man.
Tamblyn inserted herself into the Twitter debacle between Hammer and Woods by contributing her own narrative, which briefly highlighted the encounter she had with Woods in the open letter published on Teen Vogue's website.
"James Woods tried to pick me and my friend up at a restaurant once," Tamblyn wrote in a tweet Monday. "He wanted to take us to Vegas. 'I'm 16' I said. 'Even better' he said."
Woods addressed Tamblyn's allegations Monday. He compared the difference between his alleged situation with Tamblyn to the age gap present in "Call Me By Your Name" after a Twitter user equated the two. "The first is illegal. The second is a lie," Woods said in a tweet.
Actress Katie Aselton echoed Tamblyn's accusations against Woods. Aselton claimed to have experienced a similar encounter with the actor when she was 19.
"Hell yeah @ambertamblyn! I too have a James Woods story. Also at Mel's," Aselton wrote in a tweet Wednesday. "I was 19. How many of us are there? How many jameses?"
