KEY POINTS
- Getafe-bound Barcelona on-loan player Marc Cucurella has scored one goal against his parent club
- Cucurella said in a Q&A with fans that the best goal in his career was the one against Barcelona because he dedicated it to his family
- Getafe has completed the signing of Cucurella as a permanent player of its squad
Getafe CF's Marc Cucurella, who was loaned out by Barcelona to the Spanish club last year, revealed why he considers his goal against the Catalans as the best in his career during a fan Q&A.
While on loan to another team, players can still face their parent club inside the pitch. When this happens, loaned players often feel something strange about it. However, when Cucurella scored a goal against the Catalans, he said it was more of a special moment.
Cucurella made the surprising revelation during a Q&A session with fans via a chat organized by the Spanish FA on May 26 (via Besoccer.com). The Spanish defender talked about his best goal, and according to him, it was the one he scored against Barcelona.
The Getafe player, who left Barcelona to get more first-team appearances, revealed an even more touching story behind this goal. Cucurella said he will never forget that specific goal against Barca because he dedicated it to his family.
"My best goal was the one I scored last year against Barca because I was able to dedicate it to my wife and son who was due soon. It's a goal I remember very fondly," Cucurella revealed.
Cucurella can now dedicate more goals to his family whenever he faces his former parent club again in La Liga. According to Football Inside, Getafe has confirmed they have completed the signing of Cucurella from Barcelona on June 30.
Prior to the completion of the permanent move, Getafe has already been keen on taking Cucurella into their squad for good. Previous reports revealed Barca and Getafe have been negotiating Cucurella’s contract.
Barcelona has now confirmed that Cucurella was sold for €10 million ($11.4 million). His parent club reportedly added a 10% future sell-on clause.
Cucurella was one of the notable players who graduated through the famous La Masia academy of Barcelona. However, he only managed to play in one game before being loaned to Eibar.
The 21-year-old worked his way up to become a permanent Eibar player until Barcelona triggered his buy-back clause in July last year. He was then loaned to Getafe two days before the incoming season.
To everybody’s surprise, Cucurella was able to record his best numbers in La Liga this season with his loaning club. Cucurella saw himself having a spot at Getafe’s XI.
Sources claimed that after an impressive showing, Cucurella has captured the attention of big clubs across Europe. Napoli, Inter Milan and Roma were some of the clubs mentioned to be taking a close look at the defender’s progress.
