Seattle experienced its wettest day in a decade on Friday, with the National Weather Service recording 3.25 inches of rain at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Friday was the fifth rainiest day in Seattle’s history.

On Thursday, Seattle’s airport witnessed 2.91 inches, making it the 11th wettest day in history recorded there. The rainiest day in Seattle history occurred on Oct. 20, 2003, with 5.02 inches of rain.

Seattle on average experiences 152 rainy days each year.

Seattle also experienced an extremely gloomy day on Friday, with the University of Washington measuring just 0.37 million joules of solar energy, the lowest level in the 20 years since the university began recording the indicator.

Western Washington state and parts of the greater Seattle region are still under a flood watch through Sunday evening, with disrupted traffic, power outages and closed roads some of the effects of the excess water. Mudslides have also been encountered in areas.

In 2014, a mudslide in Washington killed more than 40 people.

Oregon has also been dumped by rain, with over 3.4 inches having fallen in the coastal city of Astoria on Friday, the largest amount since 1906. Oregon’s beaches recorded the brunt of the rain on Friday.
