Police and fire crew were monitoring a blaze that erupted from the Exxon refinery in North Baton Rouge, Louisiana, shortly before midnight on Tuesday night.

Confirming the incident, ExxonMobil tweeted that the volunteer team members were responding to the blaze which was “contained to the area where it occurred.”

Danny Lee, the spokesperson for ExxonMobil, said, “Baton Rouge HAZMAT is monitoring air quality in North Baton Rouge. All readings are below detection limits.”

“We apologize for any inconvenience and concern this incident may have caused. We will continue to keep you updated with information as it becomes available,” he added.

The Southern University Police Department said they were monitoring the chemical fire.

“We urge our campus community not to go near the area so as to allow first responders access to the scene,” the police department tweeted.

No off-site impact or injuries were reported.
