Formula One (F1) legends Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have won seven and five World Championships respectively but former racer Jenson Button does not think they are the fastest.

Schumacher clinched seven titles between 1994 and 2004, while Hamilton, who is currently on the top of the drivers' points table this season, is en route to his sixth title.

Button, who won his only drivers' title in 2009, has insisted that Schumacher and Hamilton are not as quick as Red Bull's 22-year-old racer Max Verstappen.

In an interview with talkSPORT, the Briton said," I think he is the fastest driver that has ever driven an F1 car. I really do. I think he is unbelievably fast. Previously to this year, he has made some mistakes as you would expect from a young driver but now he’s doing such a fantastic job. I really do think he is something special.”

Verstappen has had a terrific season so far, having won two races and six-podium finishes. He is at present tied on points with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

The Red Bull racer has been involved in several wheel-to-wheel fights in the last couple of years. Verstappen, who is known for his rough driving skills, recently said he does not mind hard racing as he is in F1 to win and not to ensure that he is liked by everyone.

“I don’t want to sound arrogant or disrespectful to others but I’m very determined to win and I would not give up. If I have to go over I’ll go over; if I have to go under, I’ll go under. In that kind of way," Verstappen said earlier in an interview.

“Like overtaking, if I have to touch, I’ll touch. It’s not like it always needs to be in the cleanest way," he added.

With the final four races left in 2019, the party is set to head to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, the race track in Mexico and the race is scheduled for Oct. 27.
