Netflix is telling the story of Formula One legend Juan Manuel Fangio, who is said to be better than Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher, in a new documentary.

In modern F1, Hamilton and Schumacher have been the two top names fans have adored for years. However, Fangio is said to be the greatest F1 driver most people have never heard of.

As opposed to Schumacher or Hamilton’s celebrated careers, Fangio is not a name that resonates greatness among sports fans, but according to some pundits, it really should. In fact, reports claimed that no driver has dominated Formula One jumping from one car to another and no driver has gained such accolades from their rivals even after their retirement like Fangio.

Looking back at his magnificent yet untold career, the Argentine pioneer was the sport’s most dominant figure during its formative years. In the process, Fangio won five remarkable championships between 1951 and 1957. The legend did it for four different constructors – Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, Ferrari and Maserati.

And now, Netflix is digging deeper into the legacy of Fangio in “A Life of Speed: The Juan Manuel Fangio Story.” The film depicts the truth about how Fangio is the greatest driver to ever grace the track. Filmmakers also reportedly included interviews from sports scientist combined with variables and statistics to help viewers weigh in on how the legendary F1 driver compares to the modern-day champions.

One of the most significant records Fangio still holds to this day is that at the age of 46, he is still the oldest person to have ever won the Formula One Driver’s Championship. The incredible record is the equivalent of somebody the same age as Keith Lemon or Robbie Williams beating Hamilton this year, The Sportsman reported.

Fangio has been regarded as the Formula One “Godfather” and even the living legend Hamilton said it during the time when he was on the verge of matching the Argentinian’s championship haul.

“Fangio is the Godfather of the sport and for us drivers. He is one of the greats from the beginning, so he will always be admired. It is crazy to think that I am embarking on a similar number of championships that he had,” Hamilton told The Guardian in 2018.

“I don’t know if the 50s were particularly a good time, and it wasn’t a great time for black people either because we probably wouldn’t have been racing, but I am grateful to be in this era,” he added.
