Red Bull's driver Max Verstappen has subtlely taken a dig at world champion Lewis Hamilton saying, "it's getting boring seeing Lewis win."

Verstappen also added that it is time for young drivers such as Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and himself to come on the top and he also hoped that they will challenge Hamilton for the drivers' championship next season.

"I think it’s good for the sport to have the young guys now coming up and hopefully taking over very soon. It’s getting a bit boring seeing Lewis win, so we have to try and change that," Verstappen said at an event to announce a personal sponsorship with pan-European online used car marketplace CarNext.com.

Mercedes' Hamilton became the second most successful driver in the history of Formula One (F1) when he clinched his sixth title at the US Grand Prix. The Briton, who will turn 35 in January, is just one world title away from equaling the world record of seven drivers' championships with legendary Michael Schumacher.

"He's getting older ... so for sure it will stop at one point. It’s just going to depend on the team, to be honest. It’s not going to depend on Lewis. If Mercedes keeps building really dominant cars, for sure he’s going to win. So we just have to make sure as a team that we can beat them," Verstappen said ahead of Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix, the season's penultimate race.

With the drivers' title already decided, the final two races of the year are just a formality but drivers like Verstappen and Leclerc would want to still give their best and accumulate as many more points as possible.

At present, it is Leclerc who is in third place with Hamilton and Vatteltri Bottas ahead of him. However, the Ferrari driver is just 14 points clear of fourth-placed Verstappen.

Verstappen said engine partners Honda had a breakthrough year in 2019 and he was confident that Red Bull, who is third overall, could be right in the game in 2020.

"I think we are on the right path. When you see the engine power compared to Mercedes and Renault, we are very close to Mercedes now so that is very promising for next year," the Dutchman added.
