Fake Stabbing Prank For Social Media Ends In Arrest For Two Brothers
What was meant as a prank for attention on social media turned into an arrest and police condemnation for two brothers who staged a stabbing at a Maryland home.
Police in Montgomery County announced the arrest of 21-year-old Denidson Jean and 19-year-old Pierre Jean for making a false call for an ambulance and making false statements to authorities regarding a prank gone wrong in late January.
The 911 dispatch on Jan. 24 received a call of a reported stabbing. The caller said the brothers were fighting and one had apparently stabbed the other in the neck.
The responding officer found Denidson laying on the kitchen floor holding a shirt to his neck to stop what police thought was “massive bleeding.” The younger brother was found standing over him, covered in what appeared to be blood. A knife was found nearby.
“The officer had been in the home and rendering aid for approximately two minutes when Denidson sat up and started laughing,” a police statement from Wednesday read. “He told the officer that this was a prank for social media.”
A search of the home uncovered fake blood and a camera placed inside a kitchen light. Staging the scene, Pierre duped four people inside the home to call 911. There is no indication that the others knew it was faked.
The situation drew a sharp rebuke from Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones, who chastised the brothers for disregarding the duty of first responders.
“These suspects also showed a total disregard for Montgomery County residents, who may have needed those emergency services that were unnecessarily devoted and possibly diverted from other calls for service to this hoax,” he said in a statement. “Even after the suspects confessed that this was a prank, officers were needed at the scene to interview witnesses and document the incident.”
The two brothers were arrested on Monday, processed, and later released from custody.
