Fall TV Premiere Dates: ‘Blacklist,’ ‘Modern Family’ Return Wednesday, Sept. 27
It’s difficult to say there’s nothing on television right now. Fall TV premieres are officially underway, and there is something for everyone airing Wednesday night.
If you’re looking for a drama about crime fighters, there is a myriad of choices. Returning favorites like “The Blacklist,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Designated Survivor” and “Criminal Minds” will premiere, but new shows will also join the mix. “Bones” star David Boreanaz returns to TV in CBS’ “SEAL Team,” about an elite team of Navy SEALs.
Those looking for a laugh can turn to ABC on Sept. 27. In the “Modern Family” Season 9 premiere, Jay (Ed O’Neill) convinces the family to go on a houseboat vacation. “American Housewife” Season 2 start right after, and the first episode will show Katie (Katy Mixon) trying to smooth things over with the moms at school. “The Goldbergs” Season 5 and “Speechless” Season 2 round out the comedy lineup.
Those who prefer their comedies to be international can tune in to Sundance TV. The network will start airing “Rosehaven,” an eight-episode Australian comedy. The show follows two friends in the rural town of Rosehaven, Tasmania, with big plans. However, their nutty townspeople test their patience.
If you live for drama, though, Fox is what you want to watch on Wednesdays. “Empire” and “Star” are airing back-to-back. In the Season 4 premiere of the former, Lucious (Terrence Howard) still has no memory of his life before the accident. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) will be trying to rebuild her relationship with him, but she knows Demi Moore’s new character might have some ulterior motives.
In the “Star” Season 2 premiere, the girls will still be dealing with the effects of Hunter’s death, but they’ll also be trying to secure a release date for their album.
Never fear reality TV fans, the networks haven’t forgotten you. “Survivor” returns for Season 35 on Sept. 27. The theme of this season is “Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers.” The tribes have been divided based on what their loved ones view as their best quality: their nobility, their kind heart or their go-getter attitude.
