Fall TV Premieres 2017: ‘Riverdale,’ ‘Mr. Robot’ Return Wednesday, Oct. 11
If you want drama, Wednesday’s premieres are perfect whether you’re in the mood for catfights, hackers saving the world or teens in a creepy town.
The “Riverdale” Season 2 premiere picks up shortly after last season’s cliffhanger. Fred (Luke Perry) might not survive the shooting at Pop’s diner, and Archie (KJ Apa) will have trouble coping. Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) will play detective as they try to learn the gunman’s true motives. Veronica (Camila Mendes) has her own daddy drama to deal with, though. Hiram (Mark Consuelos) will arrive in Riverdale. Elsewhere on the CW drama, Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) tells Betty and Kevin (Casey Cott) about the fire at Thornhill.
The CW will follow that with some more family drama. “Dynasty,” the network’s reboot of the classic ‘80s primetime soap, will delve into the Carrington family’s messy relationships. Fallon (Elizabeth Gilles) expects to be given the COO position at her father’s big energy company, but she’s shocked to learn that her father Blake’s (Grant Show) big news is all about the new love of his life. Cristal (Nathalie Kelley), who is about Fallon’s age, is going to marry Blake and take the COO position. Fallon gets her revenge by cozying up to her father’s professional rival. However, Cristal’s past might be the real threat to her place in the Carrington family.
If your drama needs to be more serious, check out “Mr. Robot” Season 3. Cyber-security engineer Elliot (Rami Malek), Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) and fsociety are in the midst of a revolution. Elliot realizes they need Angela (Portia Doubleday) if they’re going to change the world.
Hugh Laurie’s psychological thriller “Chance” premieres on Hulu Wednesday as well. In Season 2, Dr. Chance (Laurie) will become a vigilante. He is taking out his patient’s abusers, but Detective Kevin Hynes isn’t done with the forensic neuropsychiatrist yet. However, the detective isn’t rushing to put Chance behind bars.
Fantasy fans can rejoice about the return of “The Shannara Chronicles.” Season 2, which will air on Spike instead of MTV, picks up with Will’s (Austin Butler) new life being interrupted by a new character. Meanwhile, Eretria (Ivana Baquero) reunites with someone from her past. However, trouble really starts when Allanon (Manu Bennett) uncovers something that has the potential to send the Four Lands into darkness.
As always, reality fans can count on something a little lighter. “Property Brothers” returns to HGTV on Oct. 11. In the Season 11 premiere, a couple’s condo sold sooner than expected and now they’re forced to live in a family member’s basement. They want to stay close to family, and their requirements make finding new digs a bit tricky. Later, Jonathan runs into budget problems when trying to update a house.
