Fall TV Show Premiere Dates 2013: ‘New Girl,’ ‘Dads,’ ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ And ‘The Mindy Project’ Season Premiere On Tuesday, Sept. 17
The cold weather has swooped in, pumpkins are out for the picking, and TV shows are ready to premiere. Comedy lovers are in for a treat, because on Tuesday, two new comedies are premiering and two old favorites are returning.
Fox is kicking off its Tuesday comedy lineup at 8 p.m. with the series premiere of “Dads.” Another new show, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” will follow at 8:30 p.m., leading into the season 3 premiere of “New Girl” at 9 p.m. and the season 2 premiere of “The Mindy Project” at 9:30 p.m.
Check out episode descriptions for Tuesday's lineup below:
“Dads” (8 p.m. on Fox)
You’ve heard about the racial controversy in “Dads” … now watch it! Starring “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” star Seth Green and “My Name Is Earl” actor Giovanni Ribisi, “Dads” is about business partners and childhood best friends Eli (Green) and Warner (Ribisi). The pair have their lives turned upside down when their “pain-in-the-neck dads, David (Peter Riegert) and Crawford (Martin Mull), move in with them.” Vanessa Lachey, Brenda Song and Tonita Castro guest star in the pilot episode.
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (8:30 p.m. on Fox)
Odds are pretty high that you’ve heard the “Cap’n Crunch” bit from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” on a radio spot. The highly anticipated new comedy, starring “SNL” alum Andy Samberg and “Last Resort’s” Andrew Braugher, premieres at 8:30 p.m. after “Dads.”
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” follows carefree Detective Jake Peralta (Samberg) and his “eclectic group of colleagues” in Brooklyn’s 99th precinct. Their world is about to get turned upside down in the pilot episode when their “lax captain” is replaced by “tightly wound” Captain Ray Holt (Braugher) – who is “determined to make this dysfunctional group of detectives into the best precinct in Brooklyn.”
“New Girl” (9 p.m. on Fox)
“New Girl,” starring Zooey Deschanel, returns on Sept. 17 for its third season. The season premiere, “All In,” picks up immediately after season two left off – with Cece’s canceled wedding, Nick and Jess committing to their romantic relationship, Schmidt’s choice between Elizabeth and Cece and Winston’s run-in with the badger.
Tuesday night’s episode will find Nick and Jess escaping to a Mexican beach town. But in usual Nick fashion, he’ll end up running into trouble. Fortunately Nick has Schmidt and Winston, who rush to his rescue, only to potentially get him into “even deeper trouble.”
“All In” will also find Schmidt making a decision regarding Cece and Elizabeth. Meanwhile, Winston “becomes obsessed with completing a puzzle.”
“The Mindy Project” (9:30 p.m. on Fox)
Mindy Kaling is back for the second season of “The Mindy Project.” At the end of season 1, Mindy decided to follow her boyfriend Casey to Haiti. But Haiti with Casey will be anything but blissful for Mindy when she falls ill and has to be airlifted back to New York.
The season premiere, “All My Problems Solved Forever,” guest-stars James Franco as Paul Leotard, the new resident OB/GYN at Schulman & Associates. Franco’s character is a “charming, former model who also happens to be a sex therapist and offers sex therapy advice to Danny and Christina.”
