Famed Comedian On A ‘Road To Recovery' After Stroke, Says Family
The family of actor and comedian Sinbad said on Monday that he had suffered from a stroke but is on the road to recovery.
Sinbad, 64, whose real name is David Adkins, has performed in HBO standup comedy specials and also starred on sitcoms “A Different World,” and “Sinbad Show.” He has also appeared in films “Necessary Roughness,” “Houseguest,” “Coneheads” and “Jingle All the Way.” He most recently was a cast member on the Fox series “Rel.”
Sinbad's family released an official statement about his condition.
"It is out of sincere love that we share Sinbad, our beloved husband and father, is recovering from a recent stroke. Sinbad is a light source of love and joy for many generations. While he is beginning his road to recovery, we are faithful and optimistic that he will bring laughter into our hearts soon," the statement read.
Sinbad, a Michigan native, married Meredith Fuller in 1985. The couple divorced in 1992 and have two children together. He later married producer Meredith Adkins and the couple has two children, according to his IMDB.com page. Sinbad has five siblings.
"Our family thanks you in advance for your love and support and ask for continued prayers for his healing. We also ask that you please respect our privacy during this time," the family's statement read.
Fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry took to Twitter to share best wishes.
