Family Beats Youngster To Death For Being Stubborn, Buries Body In Grave Near Home
A man in Nigeria was beaten to death by his father and siblings for allegedly being stubborn and bringing disgrace to the family.
Lambert Osundu, along with his daughter and son, killed the victim, identified as 20-year-old Chukwuebuka Osundu, and buried his body in a shallow grave near their home in the wee hours of Monday. To cover up the crime, they told their relatives and neighbors that the victim had travelled to another country in search of work, The Guardian reported.
However, one of the relatives suspected foul play over the man’s sudden disappearance and decided to find out the truth. He, along with a few other friends of the victim, confronted Lambert. When he refused to say tell the truth, they threatened to burn his home, following which his daughter confessed to the crime.
They informed the police about it after which Lambert and his daughter were taken into custody. Investigation revealed that the victim was Lambert’s youngest child and that his mother had died a few years ago. Lambert and his children killed the victim because of his stubborn nature. They were also angry with him for indulging in activities that brought the family into disrepute.
Confirming the incident, Micheal Abattam, the state Police spokesperson, said, "We have got information that Lambert Osundu, Ndubuisi Osundu and Rachael Osundu, all of Umuezeruagu village in Umueze 11 in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State beat their son to death and buried him in a shallow grave. The victim is Chukwuebuka Osundu, aged 20 years."
The victim’s elder brother, who was also involved in the murder, remained on the run as of Thursday.
"At the moment, Lambert Osundu and Rechael Osundu have been arrested and detained. Though they are still in the custody of Isiala Mbano police station they will soon be transferred to the state criminal investigation department," Abattam told Prime Business.
"The matter is under investigation and if we conclude, definitely they are going to be charged to court for murder," Abattam added.
